To make it possible for
troubled children and youth to be successful in developing
appropriate social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral
skills; in understanding the social behavior of others; and
in communicating their intentions and needs in ways that
bring positive social results.
DLC subscribes to a developmental explanation of human
behavior because it recognizes that all children and youth
progress through fairly predictable hierarchical sequences
in not only physical, but intellectual, emotional, social
and psychological development as well. It acknowledges that
the environment profoundly affects the form individual
development takes, and recognizes that the interchange
between sequential maturational processes and cultural
expectations is a powerful force in every individual’s
development.
DLC is committed to the belief that every waking moment
should be acted upon as a teaching/learning opportunity.
