DLC offers four day-treatment academy programs: Primary, Middle, High School and Life Skills. Students are placed according to developmental level, functional academic level or learning profile, chronological age, and physical size. The average group size is from 12 to 15 students. A team of 2 or 3 members staffs each group/class. The team is comprised of a certified teacher, one or two assistants, and a trained counselor.

All staff are required to participate in DLC’s competency-based credentialing program. All programs are approved/licensed by the Tennessee Departments of Education, Children’s Services, and Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Treatment services unique to DLC:
• DCS Transitional program funded through a contract with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services
• A comprehensive Life Skills Program designed to serve severely developmentally delayed individuals, challenged with more than one disability
• Nursing services
• Ancillary services: occupational, physical, speech, and language therapies
• Structured individual, group, and family counseling
• Psychiatric services
• Psychological services

Program features unique to DLC:
• A team-based approach that integrates its education and mental health services
• A self-contained therapeutic group-based program structure
• A developmental learning and treatment approach
• A behavior learning program based on a cognitive-developmental approach rather than a behavior modification approach
• A cognitive-developmental approach to teaching versus “remedial” approaches
